Poet of the People: Longfellow & The Wayside Inn

This exhibit is now on display in the Jerusha Howe Gallery,
located on the 2nd floor of Longfellow’s Wayside Inn.

Immerse yourself in the life of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, an American poet who immortalized The Wayside Inn in his 1863 collection of poems, Tales of a Wayside Inn. This exhibition offers a curated journey through Longfellow’s life, providing insights into his early years, scholarly pursuits, and lasting contributions to American literature. Beyond delving into Tales of a Wayside Inn, the exhibit aims to reveal the person behind the Tales—a devoted husband, affectionate father, and avid student of European cultural and literary traditions.

This exhibit is free and open to the public during the Inn’s regular business hours.
