TWIF Members’ Event: Poet of the People Exhibit Reception

It is our great pleasure to announce the installation of a new exhibition

Poet of the People
Longfellow & The Wayside Inn

Members* of The Wayside Inn are invited to a special reception and museum gallery visit. Archivist & Membership Coordinator, Lauren Prescott, will discuss her research and answer questions about objects on display.

Immerse yourself in the life of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, an American poet who immortalized The Wayside Inn in his 1863 collection of poems, Tales of a Wayside Inn. This exhibition offers a curated journey through Longfellow’s life, providing insights into his early years, scholarly pursuits, and lasting contributions to American literature. Beyond delving into Tales of a Wayside Inn, the exhibit aims to reveal the person behind the Tales—a devoted husband, affectionate father, and avid student of European cultural and literary traditions. On display are objects associated with Longfellow, characters from Tales, and Howe family heirlooms.

We hope that you can make it to our special members opening and gallery talk on Wednesday, April 10. RSVP to TWIF@wayside.org.
