The Wayside Inn's front door is still only steps away from the original Boston Post Road. The Wayside Inn Historic Site maintains a preserved, 150-yard section of the famous unpaved roadway.
A Visitor's Guide
| We encourage people to take advantage of the unstructured layout of our
village-like campus—to walk the fields and trails, explore the Longfellow
Garden, tour the Inn, Mill, and Schoolhouse, or sit for a picnic lunch next
to Hop Brook. The Wayside Inn was formerly known as the Howe Tavern, and was operated by four generations of that one family from 1716 to 1861. Wander westward, towards the Schoolhouse and Grist Mill, over the old stone bridge, and take a walk through history! Check out the menu links to the left for more information about planning your visit. |
